According to popular folklore, Vishnu is believed to have worshipped Shiva in the form of ''kurma'' (tortoise).〔Ayyar, p 73〕The other name given to the temple is Kachipedu in some inscriptions.〔 The temple is adjacent to the Kanthakottam temple.
